Its been a while, Basketball is back! Tonight was the first game of live basketball since the BBL Trophy final. In the 1st quarter it was a tight affair, Newcastle finishing the quarter up five. However, the 2nd quarter was when the game got interesting.
The new-look Newcastle Eagles started the quarter with a 10-0 run, looking to show the Sheffield Sharks 'who's boss', it looked like they were doing that. However, we all know basketball is a game of runs, and tonight showed that, after Sheffield called a timeout, the Sharks went on a run of their own, finishing the quarter all square at 43 a piece.
Based on the first half it looked to be a competitive match, but in the 3rd quarter Cortez Edwards stole the show whilst Rahmon Fletcher took a seat, guiding the Eagles to a lead as big as 25. Sheffield had work to do, going into the final quarter down by 16 after a buzzer beater three from Mike Tuck.
The 4th quarter wasn't as fast paced as the other three, as it was just an Exhibition match, Coach Lyons and Coach MaCleod both used some of this time to give their guys a rest and give some of the roster some minutes.
After all 40mins of basketball the game finished 96-85 to the Newcastle Eagles , giving us a preview of what to expect in the coming season.
